The standard model and particle physics has become basically a religion for some scientists.

Because this makes no sense unless you're operating under some sort of belief system.
Except that all those physicists will tell you that they know that the Standard Model is incomplete, and therefore it is in some sense wrong. Religious people won't tell you that about their holy books.
