Holy cow was this unreadable. It kept pulling me in with something I was interested in, then never clearly explaining before jumping to the next thing. I oddly sort of enjoyed the whimsy of the writing, but I came away with essentially no new information.
Nothing does justice to the actual TZ database and the comments within. There is quite a bit of detailed commentary and sourcing for the actual offsets.
Does the article ever return to tell the reader what the timezone community was up in arms about? I gave up finding out, as the article just continued on tangent after tangent.
