"Chip shortage" means a lot more than just microcontrollers. The ripple effects of it have affected all sorts of analog semiconductors and integrated circuits. I only do small quantities of electronics but I've seen the lead times on bog standard parts like relay controllers and op amps shoot up and stocks are starting to dwindle.
TI are in an especially bad spot and they make lots of things from microcontrollers to battery chargers to power converters. Their parts are pretty common but many of them are currently unobtainable from standard distributors.
