Before parenting I taught math and science for nearly a decade. The two role-models among many I find inspiring are Ray Bradbury and Octavia Butler, two authors from the USA who credit public libraries for a significant portion of their education. Tax-supported public libraries continue to be a valuable resource in my life, including professional development. So many other people that I’ll never meet or be otherwise directly influenced by also benefit from public libraries, and speaking out about it aligns with the efforts of these two writers.
