A sextant (1731) vs. GPS (1973, fully operational 1993). Most large ships still have sextants as backup.

And the US Navy, after a hiatus has started training officers and crew on how to use a sextant since modern warfare will probably result in GPS being either jammed to oblivion or shot down.
