"LONDON, Feb. 3 (A.A.P.).-An Argentine shore party on Friday fired shots over the heads of a British group landing from the survey ship John Biscoe at Hope Bay, in Antarctica.

Hope Bay is on the tip of Graham Land in the Falkland Islands Dependencies, claimed by Britain, Argentina, and Chile. The British party was landing to re-establish Britain's Hope Bay base which was evacuated in 1949.

The Argentinians, however, supported by a transport vessel and a tanker which had arrived earlier in the bay, refused the party permission to land."
