If my vague memories of high school chemistry serve me correctly, then 11,100 ppm is 0.2775M, which would have a pH of about 13.4. That's definitely not something I'd want to drink.



11K ppm is 1% of the entire water supply. I doubt the plant had that much lye in stock.


But they probably had enough lye in stock to start producing water at that concentration.


I hope they followed industry standards, and used a pump that was simply not able to supply harmful amounts of the chemical even when running at maximum speed.


Surely a water treatment plant that opens up controllers to the public Internet follows all industry standards!
