Cost-effective carbon removal sounds fantastic, but does anyone else worry that this has the potential to de-incentivize other sustainability initiatives? E.g., say we had this technology available tomorrow. It'd be much easier for companies to pay lip service to sustainability by simply buying carbon removal to "offset" their emissions, without addressing other environmentally harmful aspects of their business. How do we pursue this technology while also addressing this?


If we can remove what's going to destroy us, that's a win, even if it doesn't deal with what's going to damage us. (I don't buy that it's going to destroy us, BTW. But if you buy even that it's going to be highly damaging, then run with every promising way of attacking the problem.) Don't reject good answers because they aren't perfect.
