> "We know hackers sometimes delete content when they gain access to an account, and until now people had no way of easily getting their photos and videos back," Instagram said on its website. "Starting today, we will ask people to first verify that they are the rightful account holders when permanently deleting or restoring content from Recently Deleted."

Perhaps it's just me, but that statement comes across as a sort of "well, whaddya gonna do" admission that Instagram expects hackers to access accounts.

I'd have expected different wording along the lines of: "Abundance of caution it may be, but if you want to delete permanently, or restore, content from Recently Deleted, you will now need to verify that you are the rightful account holder."

I certainly wouldn't have mentioned hackers in a matter-of-fact way.
