I like the software, but I'm not entirely sure about the Comparisons page. I mean, are the top images just default raw->jpeg conversions of some kind? Because I'm quite sure I'd be able to achieve the same final result in Affinity Photo (which is what I use, Mac here).

Is it that Filmulator gets me there with less fiddling? Or does it give me less sliders to mess things up with?

Yes, it very little fiddling and there's fewer sliders to lead you astray.
