I'm wondering whether the first steps ought to be to make current driving much safer through automation - like detecting drunk driving, falling asleep, and such and limiting speed, refusing to start, alerting police and/or nearby vehicles etc. The lessons from that might better inform the long tail of cases that autonomous vehicles will eventually face?



Yeah, people won't buy 'crippled' car brands. Probably no manufacturer will dare be first.


I could picture legal requirements that cars check for say, alcohol consumption though. Then they wouldn’t have a choice.
