I think Apple was right in that sense that just throwing MacOS onto the iPad would have been the right thing. Especially back then, MacOS would have been a very bad fit UI-wise, Big Sur makes a few steps towards the iPad now.
But that doesn't mean that people shouldn't get more flexibility in using the iPad.
