It would be good to clarify that this article (and quanta in general) is about the theoretical side of cryptography, which often has little overlap with applications of cryptography, especially when you're at the cutting edge of theoretical research like this work is.

However, that doesn't mean that iO isn't useful for tasks that you might care about. For example,

* deniable encryption (https://eprint.iacr.org/2013/454.pdf),

* better constructions of post-quantum NIZKs (which can help with ensuring that a remote server is behaving honestly),

* proving results about the hardness of finding Nash equilibria (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/7354468)
