I really wish someone had thought of that problem when defining the 802.11 specs. Though I suspect the idea hadn't even occurred to them at the time.
This was much worse back in the mid-00's when WiFi was a newer use case. Seemed like flipping open my laptop in a public place back then would suddenly cause all the network-connected widgets on my desktop to go absolutely berserk as a result of portal nonsense.
