Cinematic portrayals can color our mental images. My mental image of Cleopatra is Elizabeth Taylor, as ahistorical as that might be. The oddest along these lines in my head is that I always picture J. D. Salinger as James Earl Jones, thanks to Jones playing a character in Field of Dreams who, in the novel, was Salinger.
