My (admittedly) conspiracy theory fear is that a regulated facebook is a facebook tightly embedded in government ("It's ok to require a facebook account to sign up for xyz public service, it's regulated by the government!").

Facebook the company is not in decline. It’s still doing great. Allowing it to buy WhatsApp and Instagram seems to have been a terrible idea.
