I am not able to fully pick up on emotional cues without video. There is a reason we use facial expressions when talking in person. For a technical discussion it doesn't matter - for a personal connection it does. Another advantage of video is you can distinguish "thinking" from "frozen". Plus, you can tell when they're confused, or have a question.
