Eyes don’t have the visual acuity for 8K TV’s at normal sizes (sub 100in) to make any sense. On top of that, there is no content and given how little 4k content there is it will be years before there is a meaningful amount of content.
Regular cinema is 2k or 4k. There is very little reason to move beyond 4k, especially in the living room. HDR on the other hand has plenty of room for improvement.
You don't put your eyes 30 cm from your TV. It's about angular distance between pixels. At 3 meters, a normal viewing distance, normal eyes cannot see the difference between 4K and 8K on a 55 inch TV.
