External DVD writer (so, also CDs) drives are about $30 now for a decent brand, powered entirely over their USB cable so no power brick to mess with, and are about half an inch thick and barely bigger than the discs that go in them. One can easily live in a junk drawer, unnoticed until needed. I was surprised to discover how tiny and low-power they are now, and how cheap.

That's great for today. In 10 years? 20 years? Definitely worthless in 100. Even the $30 today is wasted money for me. I have friends that have antiquated tech laying around in a junk drawer that I could easily borrow if I needed. Instead, I just requested the vet attach the data on the disc in an email. Even cheaper and less tech waste involved.
