If I understand correctly, bartering had never been a major mode of trade, even going back to tribal societies.

That said, silver could become a medium of exchange again, for the same reason it had always been.




The problem with silver is the much larger supply compared to gold and the market cap is comparatively tiny (even less than the cryptocurrency market!). It's if course possible, but I find it quite unlikely.
