We're heading in the opposite direction because decentralization typically flies in the face of business interests. It's essentially the Apple IBM 1984 commercial, all over again.

If a business has something to sell, they want to he the central authority of it, otherwise someone else is making money.

Decentralized technologies/IP can certainly grow inside a given business but they still want to maintain some sort of stranglehold so as not to make that IP public if possible or maintain some sort of legal restrictions on its usage.
