We don't have AI as we know it either; this would be a truly earth shattering discovery if it were. But they have created a functional, reproduceable way to build unpowered glass classifiers, which is ridiculously cool, and opens up quite a few new scientific doors.
AI needs an IQ scale as you are right and what we as a mass class as AI is not what marketing classes as AI, it's a scale and with that some way to discern this is needed. An AI equivalent of the IQ scale would go a long way in allowing the masses to instantly comprehend what they are getting.
