I think that this hypocrisy also pinpoints a flaw in the main argument: this piece is a criticism of Google, not a criticism of the business ecosystem of tech companies. It singles out one actor, who is doing tings that are common practices, as a bad actor.

It is not just to say "Haha! you are an hypocrite therefore you are wrong!" That would be ad-hominem. This is to say that what they denounce is not the behavior of a single actor but the norm on the net. Failure to recognize that makes their opinion at least incomplete, probably invalid.




Singling out examples is good practice for getting the general population interested. Talking about vague groups isn't interesting. And there are ways of fixing this problem (courts, legislatures, general sentiment) that would carry over to other bad actors.

What part is invalid?


It's invalid to imply that they are the only one with bad practices. That angle is designed to turn the general population against a single entity, without context, akin to a witch hunt.
