Can I get a discount on this app?

No!

That wasn't so bad, and here I thought you were about to wage holy war against me just for asking...

Hunh. Well, I don’t need the app anymore. In fact, I reject it.

Getting rejected builds character.

Maybe, sometimes. I am not sure if practicing to ask for discounts builds character, though?

What if the process turns you into a sleazy salesman?

People are now advertising their iphone apps here? The poster's handle had 3 karma points before this post, and was created 42 days ago.

Who cares?

Hundreds of submissions a day are deemed uninteresting by HNers. This one at least hit the front page on its own merit.

I don't see a problem with it. I say put it out there and see if it's of interest to the HN clan. By inhibiting yourself, you're only depriving yourself of an audience who might be genuinely interested.

..And to make matters more interesting, I'm getting downvoted for my observation. (Probably by the guy who is trying to promote his iphone app here)

it's rejection therapy

Well that definitely sounds like a conspiracy since there's no other reason people would downvote you...

How could I have downvoted you? I only have 3 karma points (well, it's growing a bit now, but still).

Through the power of multiple accounts.

Assuming you are just spamming your app, are there any interesting technical details you might like to share to make this less about spamming and more about sharing?

That's a great app idea but that bothers me to pay for suggestion cards. I understand there is work behing the hood for the iPhone application but still. Does anyone know a website with some free example cards decks to print out ?

Not exactly "cards", but there was an effort made on a previous topic to create a list of ideas: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1755561

Sweet. I noticed there's 6 more suggestion cards in the app. The Game Crafter deck only has 30.

Use common sense

Is our fear of rejection part of common sense?

> Use common sense

Read "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin de Becker. Highly recommend it for anyone who wants to know more about how to protect yourself.

tldr: Trust your instincts. They have been honed by many, many iterations.

"They have been honed by many, many iterations." For an environment and time that we no longer live in. Evolution honed our instincts for a reason, but this reasoning was good for jungles and savannas, not urban sprawls and concrete jungles.

The danger being discussed above is that from other humans. I don't think people have changed nearly enough to call our instincts about them into question.

You have now culture, law, education, and much more conditioning than 50000/100000/1000000 years ago. I would argue that much have changed regarding how other humans react to what we do.

So has this been debunked? http://tinyurl.com/2e7c24z

Yes, but most of these iterations took place under very different circumstances than what you are likely to face today.

I don't know if you've ever read the Bible, but in Joshua 1:9 God says "Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid".

God was telling Joshua and the Israelites the formula for success.

I'd take The Book's word over what your book says any day.

Bible says fear of God is beginning of wisdom. We are to fear God because He can destroy our soul whereas everyone else can only destroy our body.

I have a book that tells me I can't own people. It's kind of a short read, but they keep adding amendments...

I can't seem to find common sense in the itunes store, is it perhaps under a different name?

How often does that actually happen? Is it something real, or just something we've become afraid of because it happens in movies?

It has got to have happened at least a few times. Since the stakes are high (life/death) the risk gets blown out of proportion.

This is freak'n awesome.
