These are excellent points. I was just having a conversation yesterday about system design and how there seems to be a tipping point after which the transactional/organizational costs of segmenting services outweigh the benefits.
My unscientific impression is that some of the organizational costs - just keeping the teams coordinated and on the same page - can become even more "expensive" than the technical costs.
