Accessibility is one of those things that can put power in the hands of users, which is frowned upon in modern computing.

I’m not sure it’s frowned upon. I think most people look at it as almost no reduction in revenue/users but a massive investment. It’s a damn shame, too. I think every developer and designer should always have accessibility in mind.
