Since the Author is from Austria, it's not common here to specify the actual salary but the minimum allowed by law according to a collective agreement which is always a laughable sum for a dev.
This is really annoying as companies try to keep the employees in the dark regarding the market rates hoping to catch someone gullible who doesn't know them, and often they do.
This is probably true, but it's not the only way to attract seniors. As in the other discussion above, I'm convinced there are many very good people that will gladly trade a significant portion of their salary for other perks.
Money is not all but FAANG have benefits and work that are comparable or better than most startups/companies. The overall package is just better... It's obvious to the market at large. Only niche audiences are willingly going to choose startups/companies with certain perks. (fully remote work, for instance - it is a niche thing regardless of what people here say)
I have just skimmed through the article. But my personal experience is lot is ads (at least in Australia) don't mention the salary range in offer. what I would be interested in is the maximum they can afford for a right candidate. since then I stopped applying if there is no pay in the ad and I don't know the company. Lot of companies assume that their pay is higher than Market.
