I believe that it was the OP intention to do that trip mostly for the experience. It doesn't make sense to ask why not take a train or any other transport instead.
In any case, it just deepens my fear of electric cars. It surely looks expensive (almost as much as gas cars), there are very few superchargers in Europe (where I live there's only 3-4, and very badly placed) and the autonomy doesn't seem to be that great. Maybe I just have to wait for better autonomy and more recharge stations...
