Yeah, but isn't most user space one would want to use some GNU util or another or from any number of third-party projects?




As Apple and Microsoft have found out, one just needs to provide a UNIX/Linux userspace layer and it's a win.


Apple does not have a Unix user space shim, macOS is a Unix OS with non-Unix userspace built on top of that.

But, yes, WSL proves the point.


Layer != shim, unless I got my English wrong.

My remark was into the sense of those using OS X and WSL as pretty GNU/Linux.

In this context, a certified UNIX has a couple of surprises to those that never left GNU/Linux.
