I tried to get single socket EPYC-based servers for a virtualization host refresh that we were doing last year, and the processors simply weren't available anywhere. _Everyone_ was out of stock indefinitely.
As far as I can tell, unless you were a hyperscaler, EPYC's release was essentially a paper launch up until Q1 2018.
