Ask HN: Lifting BI in manufacturing from the 90s
2 points by mullwaden on Nov 3, 2017 | hide | past | favorite
Hi!, I'm working for a medium size manufacturer which has an old system from the 90s keeping track of orders, stock, machine status etc. The data actually quite good (albeit a bit messy) but we have no overview of what is going on. There are lots of excel and qlikView reports flying around but qlikView does not really allow for the more advanced analyses and excel can't handle the amount of data.

Do you have any suggestions for platforms in which we could do the following? 1 Run batch jobs that collect and combine and manipulate existing data from disparate sources in the company 2 Create custom dashboards displaying said data 3 Run what-if analyses (what happens in manufacturing if we accept order x?)

(Perhaps a good solution for step 1 is enough, then qlikview can do the rest)
