I can't think of a more spectacular comeback than AMD in the last year or so. They are positioned pretty well for the inevitable convergence of CPU and GPU. That CUDA crosscompiler was such a brilliant move.

CPU, GPU, HBM all on one package. That would be a game changer for building analytics databases. There's a bunch of GPU based databases out now but a lot of the benchmark numbers they give you rely on having the data cases in GPU RAM. Real world benchmarks that require moving data over PCIe are less generous.
