Fundamental problem with article -- says that Skype changed from p2p to centralized because it was a better experience for mobile. It was political, not technological.
Facetime, which is a similar thing to Skype for the Apple platform used to be p2p in ios4.
Patent troll VirnetX sued and won for 600 million dollars to get them to stop being p2p.
Facetime has never worked as well since, and VirnetX are still trying to get iMessage and Facetime blocked.
No, p2p works fine. Better than centralized. There are forces that don't wish this.
