I am interested. What is Node.js people opinions about Django in 2016? I am a newbie and I chose Django for a somewhat serious personal project. Is it really bad to use django for a new project in 2016?
Nothing wrong with Django, it's a perfectly decent web framework.
Not every system requires the async paradigm of Node in order to be useful.
For those that do, the ecosystem is more diverse than just Node anyway. On the Python side, for example, you can use Crossbar or Django-Channels. Personally, I prefer the former but the latter is also usable.
