Not sure whether it is legal. The idea is not unique, Porsche also uses this idea in one of their concept cars:

Other manufacturers have already done so. Honda being the biggest (see Honda Landwatch). So, I'd imagine that it is.

Lanewatch doesn't replace anything - the mirror is still there, you just get a different/possibly better view on the internal screen to accompany the mirror.

Are they actually replaced though? The ones I've seen are more enhancements to the existing mirror.
