No, the whole point of LE is that you wouldn't need one because you'd automatically get a named certificate for each one of your sites.

*each host, not site. But, yeah, I agree with you, I think just registering for all active hosts should be the standard (because if you example.com, you don't necessarily own waikiki.example.com)

Ah you can get any number of certificates for each subdomain you wish?
Aside from dynamic subdomains, that would indeed solve the need for wildcard certificates.

Yep, or one certificate for multiple subdomains (SAN certs).
