Sad news. He wrote some of my favorite Allman Brothers tunes. 'In Memory of Elizabeth Reed' is beautiful. 'Rambling Man' is another classic.

RIP.


He wrote Rambling Man and thought it would be perfect for Johnny Cash. But before submitting it to Cash they needed another song for an album. The band members were all asked if they had any other material.

He mentioned he'd written something with Cash in mind. Once the record producer heard the song he said it belongs on the album, it's too good to let Johnny Cash have it ;<).

Still one of my favorite albums. I have the CD in my car and will play it tonight.


Amazing album, not only the music but the recording/mix is just right - considering it's over half a century old at this point.

The long extended version of Whipping Post is something else!
