Thanks so much, Moti! Would love to answer any questions if you've got any.

Hey folks, I'm around to answer anyone's questions :)

Love that you took something that meta wrote about but didn't actually release and then... did it for them haha :)

I lol’d

OP here: curious to see what the community thinks and to answer any questions!

Pretty close naming to Little Snitch - the Mac network monitoring tool!

I assumed that was intentional (rat being slang for snitch)

haha yes, I called it Tiny Snitch at first, but it's too close.

I respectfully disagree with the latter part (as for the former, you’re obviously free to like or dislike anything :)). I think we should each play to our strengths - and this is especially true in marketing. If this is what ends up grabbing someone’s eye where they would have otherwise ignored it, then good for the author. It’s unusual to launch a startup at that age, and therefore (in my view) interesting and merits discussion.

Agreed, if anything, I actually would have liked to hear a little more about the author, given the title.

A lot of startups have founder backstories weaved into their pitch. 'Who are you, and why are you doing this?' can be an interesting story to tell.

Hello, yaseer. Thanks for your comments. Actually, here is my linkedIn profile.[1] I have had a wonderful life to date. Like everyone else, wonderful achievements and devastating disappointments. Life comes at us hard sometimes. For me I have always believed I did the best I could with the information I had available. So when something bad happens, its never the end of the world, so it isn't the event that is important, it is how you respond to the event that is important. I'm happy to wake up in the morning and realize that I am just a small grain of sand on a very big beach. Thanks for asking. [1]https://www.linkedin.com/in/dearmontydotcom/

I think it was interesting too. I'm going to mention to my parents and a neighbor who is 78 (and btw goes out skiing once or twice a week and races with the younger people).

And nice to see that apparently I'll be able to work into my eighties, no problems

Hello, cutemonster. Yup. You can when you enjoy what you do it is not work. Go for it. Richard

Hi,yuvalkarmi. Thanks for weighing in. I appreciate it. Richard

Thank you but I know how clickbait works and I prefer my hacker news without it.

Now someone go do this with AI, and make it actually ever expanding

I've seen dall-e being able to imagine additional parts to an existing image along with a prompt, I'm sure it's possible. But probably not with this amount of creativity.

No.

Tangential, but fun: the following is NOT what this post says. The following is the response to a the ChatGPT prompt "write the press release by an imagined body called the Department of Energy announcing the achievement of fusion ignition." Mind you, ChatGPT training data ends in 2021, so it's definitely not aware of this news:

"The Department of Energy is pleased to announce the successful achievement of fusion ignition in our latest experiment. This breakthrough marks a major milestone in our pursuit of clean, limitless energy.

Fusion, the process by which atomic nuclei combine to release vast amounts of energy, has long been considered the Holy Grail of energy production. It has the potential to provide an virtually limitless supply of clean, safe energy, without the harmful greenhouse gas emissions or dangerous waste products of other forms of energy production.

For decades, scientists and engineers have been working to unlock the secrets of fusion and harness its power. This has been a challenging and complex endeavor, but we are now closer than ever to achieving our goal. The successful fusion ignition in our experiment marks the first time that this process has been achieved outside of the core of a star. This is a significant step forward in our efforts to harness the power of fusion and bring it to practical use.

We believe that fusion has the potential to revolutionize the way we produce energy, and we are committed to pursuing this technology with all of the resources at our disposal. In the coming years, we will continue to conduct experiments and research, with the goal of developing a fusion reactor that can provide a stable, reliable source of energy.

We are extremely proud of this achievement, and we will continue to work tirelessly to develop this technology and bring it to the world. This is an exciting time for energy production, and we are confident that fusion will play a major role in our collective future. We are grateful for the support of our colleagues and partners in this effort, and we look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible."

Why is there a Geico ad on the site?

GEICO is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway that provides coverage for more than 24 million motor vehicles owned by more than 15 million policy holders as of 2017.

Berkshire owns Geico.

In my opinion a ton of class and prestige is lost by putting an ad on a front page. So it must yield their subsidiary huge returns to be “worth” it.

Disclaimer: am not a billionaire.

Class and prestige is exactly what Buffett is not about. He does not care at all about opinions of his website. He cares only if the money goes up and credibility is maintained. Any focus on the site would be a waste of money, unless you can make a buck.

Same dude loves buying hail damaged cars. This is a hail damaged website. Works fine. Sells insurance while you’re there.

That is a good point. Teacher, I’d like to change my answer.

Probably pays more than enough to run that site

SEO. Really.
