I was questioning myself the same question, and imagined that would be a perfect application for a surveillance system with 3 satellite placed at L3, L4 and L5 Earth-Sun Lagrangian points and 3 placed 120° from each at a perpendicular orbit with respect to Earth orbital plane.

I have to stop reading the comments before the article ... it took 3 sec .. but now I can't finish it ;)

ctrl-c, ctrl-v issue ...

Well spotted. The reason is that this chart's author is the designer of Oz, which is a multi-paradigm language if there ever was one, as is reflected in the chart, and the design of which is painstakingly and very well explained in his book, "Concepts, Techniques, Models of Computer Programming".

almost the same case here, for me it worked fine for the first 4 months. Now, I decided to take a sabbatical year to take care of the baby while my wife still working.. and i have to say, I'm enjoying it very much!

funny how neuroscientists use terms such as "computation" and "(more) computing power", with no proper definition

Floating point operations, and more FLOPS.

Definitely.

I wonder whether Nietzsche wrote that because of his mother tongue... for me, switching between English and German is just like switching down 5 gears in a car...

I think of reading as a process of tuning between the mind of the writer and the reader.. like a dialogue, you can modulate the speed until you both feel comfortable with ..

@natfriedman, thanks to come public and sharing with us. To summarize in one word: transparency. That’s what GitHub community expects from the platform and you are the key person to drive it. Microsoft has been increasingly open to the whole open-source idea, which is great. But coming to the point, please, understand the following concerns: 1 - There is without doubt a conflict of interest and trust issues on Microsoft hosting thousands of private repositories, where some potentially compete with Microsoft commercial interests; 2 - There are concerns that the platform would become a exclusive marketing weapon in the hands of Microsoft, eventually killing the spirit of openness and free competition. 3 - The developer community fears that Microsoft see them as “potential clients” and therefore as target to its products. The developer community doesn’t want to be monetizing neither be bombarded with Microsoft products ads. 4 - GitHub has always been a community driven and community centered platform. What will be the role of Microsoft as it changes from “one more user” to the owner of the platform? 5 - What is now business model of GitHub and how entangled is it with Microsoft? More than ever, and more than anything else transparency will be the key for the success of GitHub. I wish you lucky on the new task.

“I've never been comfortable programming in a language I hadn't written a compiler for “

That says everything. Thanks for this ;)

Could Zuckerberg be jailed as a result of this hearing? For instance, in case of him being previously aware of Europeans data leakage or deliberately lying about it?

No.

"No." is a very short answer for something as complex as could someone become imprisoned.

While the EU parliament doesn't jail people, there are lots of countries that do.

If he admits to breaking the law during the meeting any one of the EU countries could issue an EU arrest warrant for him. Then he would be held within that country to be extradited.

If I was in charge of the British Parliament committee that wants to question him, I would issue an EU arrest warrant for one of the many crimes that are being levelled at Cambridge Analytic with him being part of it. Then question him about it. But I am petty and would want to show that just because he's American he isn't always out of reach.

It's not a complex thing at all. No, there is zero chance, short of stabbing someone on the mean streets of Brussels on the way there that Mark Zuckerberg or anyone else voluntarily appearing before the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament will be jailed as a consequence.

So, you're saying, Mark Zuckerberg goes and admits to breaking several laws, ones that are criminal in many EU countries, but because he was appearing before Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament no one would issue an EU arrest warrant for those crimes?

The entire assumption is Facebook isn't breaking any criminal laws and Mark Zuckerberg isn't directly linked to those laws.

Chances of going to jail, slim. But it is still in the world of possibilities.

you're saying, Mark Zuckerberg goes and admits to breaking several laws

I'm not saying that, you're saying it and it's not going to happen any more than him stabbing someone or all of Belgium getting eaten by bears.

Right

Oh, a setup.

Well, that will be until the shop owners install AI assistants to reply customers calls, then we’ll have robots talking to robopts using human language, which would make the whole idea nonsense...

If the robots can interact with people who can't use a computer, then user accessibility could improve over the current situation. Like most technology, this has potential to improve the human condition for many or few. It depends on how people use it.
