Last year, obfsproxy was absolutely still effective in China. There are several comments here that "Tor doesn't work". Yes, vanilla Tor hasn't worked for years now. While it's true China has managed to block obfsproxy for short periods, the Tor developers are constantly release updates that circumvent the blocks.

20%? Are we even looking at the same charts? After closing 5 tabs 270mb -> 480mb! Those numbers don't lie and your guarantee is worthless to those of us that have seen Firefox's memory bloat over the past year.
When Chrome started to get fat, it was great to have a lightweight alternative like Firefox. But lately even Firefox has been causing my 1GB netbook to thrash. I hate to have to junk a perfectly good machine that is only used for email and browsing just because of software bloat. After doing a factory restore, it looks like that or a lightweight Linux distro(while losing flash and HW accel) are my only options.
Actually the addictive factor reminds me of a Joust on rails. Take away the left/right controls, and idea is similar to the 1982 arcade game. If you've never played it before, check it out on MAME.
No, VLC should remember the last audio level, just not when it's over 100%. If I leave it at 50%. On next restart it should be 50%. If I'm watching a movie and finish on 200%, on next restart it should be 100%.
Clipping sucks. VLC shouldn't remember these options unless the user changes an optional setting.
I have to be honest, setting "do not remember audio" sounds like a decent compromise between not getting anything that you want and getting exactly what you want. It is especially appealing since you get VLC and this compromise solution for free. However if you are still not satisfied:

It boils down to taking responsibility for your own actions. She took the effort to change her physical gender without much effort into changing her online identity. She didn't change her G+ profile and ignored google's warnings about using it.
On my 2-3yr old laptop w/ a 8600GT, I agree that for 2D only X11 apps, Nouveau drivers seem to have less issues with tearing and drawing than the proprietary drivers. But once you want to need power management to run on battery, play games, or watch HD videos, the Nouveau are buggy, glitchy, and useless.
I have an extensive Steam library and while most of the Linux games work fine with proprietary, they are unplayable with Nouveau. I really hope Valve's commitment to Linux motivates Nvidia to put some resources into their open source drivers like AMD and Intel have done. If Nouveau was my only option under Linux, I'd switch to Windows.
Even for non-gammers, how can you seriously recommend laptop drivers that don't offer critical features like power management and video out?
>In the case of games, nearly every single game company refuses to provide their games as free (libre) game software.
Rockstar spent $266 million to develop Grand Theft Auto V. How do you expect them to recoup this cost if they gave it away as free software? What communist fairly land do you come from?
If GP is from the RMS school of thought, then only the code needs to be free. The assets aren't. The code, with no assets, is practically worthless to the end-consumer.
I think it’s marvelous when our society takes care of our existing mentally and physically ill. But encouraging those with major genetic problems to reproduce is asinine. A close friend of mine is very religious, over 40, chose to have a 3rd child, chose not to have the doctor recommended amniocentesis test, and had a child born with Down syndrome. In the end, the medical bills and stress on the relations wrecked their family.
The kids a sweetheart and occasionally has happy moments, but I am sure there is absolutely no way I would want to be born under his circumstances. Until we’ve reached a stage where we can correct genetic defects after the fact, there is nothing wrong with warning people about the risks their DNA may carry on to their children.
Novice developers should not be writing drivers in any language. If you don't have a C background, you're not going to be able to contribute much code to any OS. Besides config files and scripts, NetBSD is nearly 100% C.
If you really want to get into OS programming, I recommend you start with "Computer Architecture" by Hennessy & Patterson along with a course in C programming.
"Novice developers should not be writing drivers in any language."
Well, it might not be such a bad thing to write your stuff in Lua and get the lights blinking as a way to work your way up to C and mainline device driver development. If the device drivers interest the novice programmer, let's encourage that. Its not like there aren't a ton of safeguards between the novice and getting their driver in the mainline.
I can’t believe you seriously consider PulseAudio to be a technological improvement. Having used PA for years, I have encountered and reported numerous bugs and performance issues. After trying to debug some PA issues, I lost all respect for Poettering. The only worse sound server that I’ve encountered is AudioFlinger, and at least that has the excuse of being optimized for battery life over latency.
It’s clear that systemd will break compatibility with BSD. What isn’t clear yet, is if this is truly a better system. I have nothing against change. I’m all for Wayland. I just have no confidence in Poettering's work.
Most of the other improvements that you listed have been in BSD for years. Its sound subsystem OSS4 is also a much cleaner API and better performing interface than ALSA.
