The same AI tech developed for "search and rescue" can be easily re-purposed for "search and destroy". How would Google prevent that from happening?

Question: what is the advantage of SPA for a statically generated site?

Once the first page is loaded subsequent interactions that would normally require a full page request can be done with smaller requests and with nice transition effects.

Lately I've been thinking that browsers could do whole DOM diffing for the transitions between the same origin.

Browser could just retain a current DOM, then just replace what's different.

I wonder how hard would it be to implement.

I understand that it's not how it works currently. But I hate that most SPAs out there fail to signify progress and failure. I click something and nothing happens. It's infuriating.

Yes, but built-in in browser.

Edit: and fully automatic. Browser would try to replace what it could, but only as long as the origin remains the same.

Such beautiful, thoughtful writing. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful.

Reminds me of Wilson Bentley's old photos: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilson_Bentley

I found this to be quite condescending -- "lower levels of Maslow hierarchy".

Have you considered that perhaps most Chinese people are "made unready" for democracy simply because of the extreme suppressions by an authoritarian regime?

Or have you considered that perhaps food, shelter, and openness are not mutually exclusive -- that one must have one in order to have another?

But it's true, equally so for the U.S., by the way. People with high income are twice as likely to participate in the democratic process as poor people: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_turnout_in_the_United_St...

It also makes perfect sense if you look at the post-medieval revival of the democratic idea: It was the emerging middle-class, rich people, who demanded participation in the governing processes.

More readable than In Search of Lost Time by Proust :)

You can also argue that if the theme is about something as expansive as the "dark forest" (no plot spoiler!), flat characters and telling-not-showing are not bad choices for writing style. The humankind can be as insignificant or dull for this context.

Book 3 is where it all comes together. Pretty insane!

Everything looks perfect. Every face looks plastic.

I think I prefer the imperfect photos. But that's just me.

> "dog people are more outgoing, measured in terms of Facebook friends."

Or, perhaps, cat people just don't like adding friends on Facebook as much as dog people!
