Joining the party, that was a trip down memory lane!

I might as well jump in on this, too...

nice

Is this the thread where Mozillians assemble?

Into that Quantum-bot exosuit thingy?

I had this happen as well and ran the epub through Calibre, converting epub to epub. That actually fixed it and the Kindle accepted the new file.

I never investigated this deeper but I have similar issue on my Nook Glowlight. Despite it supporting ePUB files some of them just throw an error on the devices. Converting them ePUB to ePUB solves the problem.

I've learned recently at my new job that ePubs are just a giant zip file of html, css, etc. Sometimes you need to rezip them if they are not working quite right and I imagine that is what converting them from ePub to ePub is doing.

I converted a PDF to EPUB (v2) through Calibre, and Send to Kindle would not accept it.

I totally came here to suggest huge balloons!

If you are interested in stories like this, and how people make life or death decisions in difficult situations, I recommend Laurence Gonzales's book Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why.

Yes! Also American Alpine Journal accident reports.

Serious question, whenever I read something about a Vitamin D deficiency, or a huge number of people getting tests back as lacking Vitamin D, I wonder -- what determined what the baseline of not-deficient is, and for which population? How were the baseline expectations set?

Chickens coming home to roost.

Do you believe the same thing about email spam detection? Various authorities decide on the validity of email and webspam.

If people pick companies to do filtering for them, it is their choice. GMail is causing some problems. In general, most people opt to have suspicious mail sorted into a Spam folder, not deleted completely.

Some other fabulous Chinese novels, not really obscure as they are the most famous novels in China, but not well known to English speaking readers: Dream of Red Mansions/Story of the Stone, an epic about two families and the decline of their fortunes; The Scholars, another 18th century long book of linked stories that's basically political satire; and Outlaws of the Marsh/The Water Margin, a long series of linked tales about bandits that's a little bit Robin-Hoodish as it's really about their political rebellion.

Trollope is pretty great. Especially if you like a long story arc and a large cast of characters, try the Warden series and the Palliser series.

It is definitely a great browser. I think the market share dropping has a lot to do with browser lockin on specific hardware, and site-specific apps being used more and more. We are losing more and more of the open, public infrastructure of the open web.
