I hate it when someone says we'd like to fund more from a "minority" such as women or black people or XXX like YC has done in the past. What does this do?

1. For the minority this makes them feel like they "need help" and they are "not good enough" unless they are given an unfair advantage

2. For the majority, it makes them feel sidelined and at an unfair disadvantage when applying

YC needs to just promote entrepreneurship and not colour. For the record, I am a coloured man, unfortunately not black to be able to take advantage of this latest "minority giveaway"

You could have at least called the founder and asked what he meant, instead of bashing him here. You could have asked him to add more clarification in his blog which might have ensured that what your pointing to is not implied.

You guys are growing and its important to scale your communication as well.

Another useless service --- here comes the bubble.

Obviously useless to you, but it's by far the best lyric site for hip hop. And with all of the subtle references in lyrics, the annotations can be invaluable in helping casual listeners understand an artist's message.

Why do you think this is useless?

I think what she meant was being put in the same category as people who had committed real crimes which warrants harsh treatments like confinements. I don't think she meant treat me specially :)

Would be really fun to watch this go in a crowded area where there are other voices :)

It's like saying sex toys will eventually replace having sex because why waste time dating, courting and then having sex :) when you could just use a toy + redtube and get it over with in 10 minutes.

These are what I call "Get me some Press" companies from a VC / YC perspective. Will make the cover of WSJ ... get a ton of attention to the company and investors and eventually be dead in 3-4 years.

Which accelerator was this?

Unfortunately the article is really short on identifying details. I'm assuming the names in the article are fake.

However, the fact that she gave up control of the company to the accelerator is unusual.

Lightbank Start, which doesn't have a website anymore (defunct?) took 50% equity. And it was founded by two men. Could that be it?

I imagine this expansion will hopefully lead to a larger batch being selected this year as there are more mentors available.
