Top tier jobs are subjective. Women have less interest in engineering.

This shouldn't be a controversial take. It is Occam's razor after all.

We know that before the tech industry became popular and a way to make good money, women displayed little to no interest in being associated with programming "nerds" which were predominantly men to the extent that men over-represented the group of socially outcast nerds. This was mostly an American phenomenon, and other countries did not share this social hierarchy, hence the data on girls performing better academically outside of the US.

> women displayed little to no interest in being associated with programming "nerds" which were predominantly men to the extent that men over-represented the group of socially outcast nerds

When did this change? I either missed it or this was always an exaggeration in media.

I think attitudes changed a lot in the late 90s/early 00s.

The Internet suddenly became a big thing, PCs massively growing in popularity, and the image of gaming was changing, becoming a less nerdy pastime with the arrival of the Playstation.

Not really sure if it encouraged a more diverse set of youngsters to develop a serious interest in computing though, as by then we'd already got to the point where 'learning to use a computer' now meant Word+Excel rather than BASIC or LOGO

New (covid) world order

I can't wait for all of googles engineers to get the m1 laptops so they can redesign gmail for the 3rd time in 5 years but this time make it even slower and more unuseable for people on non-cutting edge hardware

We are already go fucking deep in debt this barely makes a difference. I say go for it. let the people vote for whichever politian says they will give them the most free money.i give the usa less than 100 years.

Giving $500/mo to everyone would cost like half of the current federal budget per year.

I think the idea is that it would grow the economy and overall tax revenue. Struggling with housing and joblessness is a great way to avoid paying tax - if you’ve got nothing you pay nothing. For people who don’t need the money, it just flows into their taxes, and their purchases. In addition the insane amounts spent on policing, and other downstream costs of poverty would help recoup.

But the final argument for something like this is: do you want to thrive while someone else starves? Would it not be worth it to you to thrive a small amount less in order to ensure that nobody is starving?

It might also just inflate the cost of everything to the point where increases in rent, groceries, etc. eat up whatever money we distribute like that.

I mean, inflating away debts is certainly one way to reduce the associated pain, but inflation can also wipe out wages, so it’s a bit of a balance. We haven’t seen a permanent UBI scheme in a large enough way to know what might happen.

That’s not how the national debt works at all. Who do you think the debt is owed to?

I think the idea is that if we continue to print money, the dollar will eventually collapse as the world's reserve currency, and nations will use the yuan or euro instead - having a material effect on American persons life outcomes.

I know increased national debt doesn't directly imply money printing, just throwing some thoughts out there.

> I think the idea is that if we continue to print money, the dollar will eventually collapse as the world's reserve currency, and nations will use the yuan or euro instead - having a material effect on American persons life outcomes.

So, if poor people are given "Free" money to express a demand for goods and services they currently possess but do not have the funds to express, how does this lead to inflation - more specifically how does this lead to fruitless inflation?

The Euro is definitely not well managed compared to the dollar; how many cycles of supposed bank stress tests followed by bank failures have we seen?

China more or less has decided that it would rather choose the ability to impose strict capital controls at will than have a reserve currency.

It's a felony to store ANY pills outside of their original container.

I do like your theory that it was a honeypot from the left created to produce people to attack.

I would be surprised if our intelligence agencies and law enforcement didn't have a role in creating/running extremist sites. Seeing as the FBI likes to run child porn sites and infiltrate political groups that could cause instability, they are the most obvious perpetrators.

The leader of the supposedly white supremecist Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, is an Afro-Cuban who turned out to be an FBI informer.

Wheels within wheels.

FWIW Gab very proudly proclaims that they report things to law enforcement if they cross a legal line. I could be wrong but I would think that if the FBI was trying to entrap people they would not want to give such a warning.

I think you are wrong, stating it prominently and repeatedly makes the warning disappear into noise for users so there's little downside and a lot of upside if it were in fact being operated by the FBI.

I doubt it is though, I don't think the FBI has the capability to be frank, but even more if the FBI were operating it as a honeypot somehow I doubt that the websites would have been banned from AWS and such.

I'm sure that if it were true the FBI could have easily just told AWS that the presence of extremist content was being allowed by law enforcement specifically to identify terrorists.

I think the idea that it's a honeypot is a very poor fit to the available information.

Occam‘s razor would disagree. While it‘s certainly thinkable that it‘s a honeypot of the FBI, set up from the left (just like it‘s possible that it was Antifa who stormed the capitol posing as Trump supporters), it‘s far more likely this was a job done by nutjobs, for nutjobs.

If you also think the earth is flat or the election was stolen despite literal mountains of evidence, how are you supposed to properly weigh any other rational evidence like the existence of SQL injections?
