No doubt the intent of this tool is to tightly couple your development flow to GitHub/Microsoft.

Makes switching to other vendors more painful further down the line.

I don't understand this mentality. Git itself doesn't provide a way to interact with PRs or issues on GitHub.

This utility does.

If you are uncomfortable with using GH to manage issues and PRs you shouldn't probably shouldn't be using GH.

That's a fairly cynical take. How is this any worse than offering an API?

It's open source [0], there's nothing stopping you hooking it up to Gitlab, or pointing it at jira.

> Every other framework relies on JQuery

This just isn't true. OP mentioned React, Vue.js, and Mithril. None of these use jQuery as a dependency. Neither does Angular, Backbone, or Ember.js.

Angular 1.x uses a version of JQ Lite, and will utilize jQuery if it's already loaded on the page.

That being said, I don't think knowing jQuery is very valuable for JS developers anymore. Browser standards have come a long way and frameworks are handling your DOM writes for you, so that major use case for jQuery is gone in any website that requires substantial scripting.

Really? what if you have to support legacy apps that are 100% jquery on the frontend / php on the back? It's VERY much still a thing..

Well, technically jQuery is listed as dependency in the bower.json file for Ember.

But I think that's really only so the Ember jQuery wrapper will work properly. So you're still right.

This change was committed on Jun 14th 2013, about a week after the PRISM programme had been leaked by Edward Snowden. It is a clear reference to the programme but by this point it was already public knowledge.

I don't know the exact date that Snowden leaked PRISM but it was already being talked about as early as June 6th 2013 in the Washington Post http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/prism-...

I love bland and hate surprises.

One of the features I despise most in Ruby is Monkey Patching since it changes expected behaviour.

There are some very serious privacy concerns that need to be addressed with this plugin

That would be which? Does the plugin send every search request made to google to the omniref servers? Did you have a look at the implementation? @timr could you give some more info on how you accomplish this?

I guess he didn't read "Lean Startup"

However, an acre of land can produce a far greater quantity of vegetables than meat. An enormous amount of energy is lost in producing meat.

While overpopulation is a problem the way we think about food doesn't help. If you look at food production in countries with high ovepopulation (like China), you will see that the diet contains a lot less meat than our western diet.

This looks like a really cool project.

Thanks!

How does this differ from Ruboto http://ruboto.org/?

I've only just started playing with Rubymotion and it does seem very nice. I'm excited its going to support Android too but Ruboto is another piece of technology that also looks exciting.

Ruboto uses JRuby which has a long start up time.

The examples are like a spaghetti code visualisation
