It’s the standard practice of noting internal/implementation details. Users should stick with the public api exported in __init__.

Interesting, thanks! I’ve seen it for importable stuff but never for modules.

I guess I’m getting old

> People are trying to posture and prove all kinds of things.

I would hope that it’s a mixture of personalities posting here, rather than a subset of people who are following some personal agenda.

This crowd is hopefully mature enough to avoid this type of behavior.

Well, there's careers being made, egos being stroked, and insecurities being salved.

It's not just a shared interest community. YC isn't a benevolent organization, and many of the folks, hereabouts, have some pretty serious cred (and money/power). Lots of folks want to get on their good side, and may think that frontin' is the best way.

Note that you're one of a minority of people here who aren't using a pseudonym.

I don't use my real name here precisely so that I don't have to worry about what other people will think about me when reading my comments.

I’m not sure it’s a minority. Folks out themselves, all the time, and I encountered a couple of companies, when I was still job-searching, that required my HN ID, in the application.

But the main reason I do it, is because it forces me to behave. I may come across as a bit “stuffy,” but I challenge folks to find anything I’ve posted here (or anywhere, in the last eight years or so), that would be considered “troll-ish.”

I used to be a troll. I feel the need for some atonement.

Also, I found out that we are nowhere near as anonymous as we think we are.

If we participate in a public forum, I feel as if we need to be aware that we each have a personal Responsibility to add to it, and that we should just assume that we will be held to account for our words.

Just like IRL.

I know, I know. That’s a “quaint” attitude, but it’s the one I have.

Awesome! Love that it's written in Go—I've recently tested the language for some use cases at work and find it great. I'll dive into your repo to see if I can learn anything new :)

Your browser has developer tools which provide views into transmitted files, network requests, etc. You poke around and see how it is implemented using the tools.

How does one end up in this space of work?

Operations research related studies and work for a logistics company or a company that does some logistics itself (e.g. oil and gas, airlines etc)

This is what I did as well. I’m located in Bakersfield in the California central valley, and the local market is abysmal compared to what you would find from a one-hour drive south to Santa Clarita, or up to SFV.

Remote may bring down wages for workers located in HCOL, but it’s been great for me as I don’t have the ability to relocate.

To put it bluntly:

> Different strokes for different folks

Don’t you think you’re exaggerating? I would imagine there are fans of written language in every language. English isn’t special in this context.

Not in the least bit.

Far too many of these supposed greats works of literature get an easy pass from uncritical also-rans of the world, who just want to move on in the name of different-strokes-for-different-folks without ever calling out the bs for what it really is. I'm not saying there aren't valid detractors of these works - there are - but far too often they're drowned out.

Far too many of these works hide behind the crutch of 'fiction' to spew utter hogwash without making an ounce of sense to the regular, impartial and non-dyed-in reader.

Far too many of these books - when coupled with a lackadaisical populace in general who are more concerned about seeming non-fussy - get that stellar mythical hallowed status and lore.

I'm not saying that there are not enough people who genuinely get entranced with these works (although if you run that through a fine comb your results may vary) - its that the gatekeepers of education seem to be entirely made up of these uncritical clowns who will nod away in affirmation, decade after decade in cementing the undeserved status of these works.

I agree with your take on the literature. My point wasn’t in response to Ulysses or criticism of it, but of your statement regarding over-obsession with the English language.

Time to return to the Brahman.

Submissions generally use the title of the source article.

Yeah, Ars could have (and should have) put it in the title, though.

They want you to click through and find out.

This article discusses inflation in the USA and Canada as it relates to estimates of immigration, consumer spending, and central bank policies.

I came across it on r/econmonitor.
