Thanks!

Alex, cofounder here, 100% agree with you on the link sharing and that was the feature for us that was always missing.

We've got big plans for this, so we're really excited to get this beta live and start receiving feedback.

100% right for corporations. When speaking with some security professionals, one aspect they look for in open-source projects is whether it has a monetization plan behind it. This is to give some assurance that there is longevity to the project and that it won't be forgotten about in the future.

This is a very good point and I absolutely agree transparency on all fronts is important.

If you want to give your work away for free, people still need to hear about it some way, which would be the marketing side of it.

I think it's only misleading when someone markets their open source project without being up front about their monetization strategy (whether they have one or don't)

people still need to hear about it some way, which would be the marketing side of it.

*Marketing* as defined in the article is specifically about monetizing and generating income from open source in some way.

*This article is aimed at commercial open-source software (COSS)*

Where's the oxymoron then? Open-source can be monetized. Marketing can help with that. I don't see any issues with the term "open-source marketing".

They’re essentially just saying “it’s hard”

I think a clearly summarized report on key issues and takeaways each month can deliver the same result.

After we cover both of our salaries, what type of work/life balance do you want?

The reason I think this is important, is the start is always a grind. But, when you get to the stage of going full-time, worst feeling is when one side thinks they are contributing more. Being aligned on expectations from the start will save lots of headaches in the future.

Another question, which I think you need to ask yourself, is if you would enjoy working with that person. Going with a cofounder means you're going to be spending a lot of time together. They could be the best in their field, but if they are insufferable, it's not worth the headache.

Well, here´s hoping it doesn't end in a divorce!

Thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it! We´re still new and directions can always be changed, but I´d say our target is SMB. The ones who can´t afford the big players. Great suggestion with the content analytics, this is something we´ll look into!

Well, this startup is still new, so retrospective insights are a bit difficult. However, once we have a couple months under our belt of operating the business, then I think those personal accounts of experiences will be a lot stronger. I like your idea of hearing both perspectives.

Thanks Dan, looking into this now!
