Apple settled a class-action lawsuit over their power adapters, which makes it much easier to receive a free replacement these days, but they seem to refuse to fix the design of the cords.

I don't know what I find more amazing -- that Apple's power cords don't start fires and kill people on a regular basis, or that Apple isn't sufficiently worried that this will happen to hire competent engineers to design better ones. It's one of life's great mysteries. The same story appears on the front page of one news site or another at least once a year, and Apple does nothing.

If this defense had any merit, then there should be far better options in large American cities. This is not the case.

Ironically, all of the software for From NAND to Tetris is written in Java.

It's not that Java is a bad language to write programs in per se (platform agnosticism can be a huge help for educational purposes). It's just a bad language to teach programming.

It is this kind of nitpicking, without justified analysis of the course (where you do not program in Java, but a language specific to the course for building logic gates and working your way up) and without appreciation for the JVM, Java, and its interaction with the right kind of platform that leads me to believe we missed the entire point of this thread in the comments.

Why are so many of you upset by this?

I'm not--but I don't like what they charge per domain. I can deal(go else where)with Godaddy, but I can't deal with fixed costs.

"Tim’s Vermeer tells the story of one man’s obsession to accomplish the near impossible, and paint a Vermeer with almost no art skills what-so-ever. Along the way he may prove that one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age could have used unforeseen technology advances to create some of the greatest regarded paintings of all time. And while the film is about one man’s journey, it is also an exploration of the intersection of art and technology — If Vermeer invented and used advanced technology to help create his art, was he 'cheating'? Is the art somehow less incredible knowing the process?"

Online startups comprise a small portion of all small businesses. Most small businesses do not rely on Google.

The building appears to be better than average, but the workspaces look pretty horrible.

They're actually pretty good. Sit/stand electric desks all around, and lots of great spaces throughout the building if you get tired of your desk and want a change of pace. I was spoiled in previous jobs by having my own office, but short of that I think Mozilla SF is about as good as it gets.

LLPs are not LLCs.

The difference is the impact that corporations have on the world.

What does Blackberry's supposed great security actually entail?

Details: http://electrospaces.blogspot.com/2013/04/how-obamas-blackbe...

SecurVoice software by Genesis Key, a short list of contacts that also have compatible communications devices (unclear if that's required or if that's only for classified communications, since a photo caption has Obama calling Romney), and possibly other hardware or firmware modifications that are not disclosed. IMEI kept secret, and the phone might only connect to a special secured base station.

They own a subsidiary, called Certicom that owns nearly all of the key patents surrounding Elliptic Curve Cryptography.

It's not just a "Blackberry". It's custom hardware with custom security.

custom hardware

Source?

Is that not common sense?

Apps and shortsighted or ignorant programming practices by app devs are a big source of security holes for iOS.
