you were lucky to hit that point in middle school. i am in high school currently and am struggling due to not ever learning proper study skills. everything before was too easy for me which ended up hurting me in the long run.

JSON was created as the lowest common denominator between multiple ancient javascript engines. At one time, at least one browser couldn't handle keywords being used as unquoted object keys, so JSON just has all keys quoted for simplicity. It's the same deal with trailing commas.
the idea is that cheaters would find it more fun to play in the tool-assisted mode. obviously there will still be some black-hats who try to hack the main mode.
