Even with Google Maps, I find the UX of Apple Maps to be superior.
The worst part is how when you’re on a trip and move to another app and back, Google Maps will wait 5-10 secs before showing you the trip you’re literally on. Instead it prioritises the unwanted “what’s on” box.
I’ll use Google Maps for reviews, and Apple Maps for everything else.
A lot of countries have unwritten (and written) rules around different types of media. The question is, who do you defer to to understand them?
Think about the west. Between Europe and the Anglosphere, there are a multitude of norms for what you can show or describe depending on the medium, the rating, the location, the platform, and the era.
In this case, there were a ton of Chinese books published by Chinese people in China, voted on by Chinese people in China, in a competition held in China. The censorship was decided by a foreigner.
One might assume that those multitudes of Chinese authors, Chinese publishers, and Chinese fans would be best positioned to know where the line sits in China.
It would be a shame if the result of a foreigner deciding to exclude all Chinese authors from one competition was the community deciding to avoid hosting in China in future.
Per the article, both sides are providing the kids rehabilitation.
One man’s ‘reeducation camp’ is another man’s ‘rehabilitation and psychological counselling’.
> According to Kuleba, Save Ukraine has rescued 232 children. The nongovernmental organization counts the United Nations and USAID among its funders. It runs rehabilitation centers for children displaced by war, providing education, housing, and psychological support.
On the iOS app, when zoomed in, I want to be able to pan across by using one finger on either the outside of the map, or revealed tiles.
I also want to be able to double tap a number to reveal all un-flagged tiles adjacent. (For extra safety, this should only work if the number of flags adjacent are equal or greater to the cell’s value)
Also, the ‘rate this game’ shortcut doesn’t work. Maybe because I’ve disabled rating pestering.
Ah, I haven't thought about allowing pan with 1 finger when you start on a revealed tile, that's a good idea, I'll try to add this.
Revealing neighbors is currently desktop only, as it seemed risky to have that on a small screen, but maybe double tap will do just fine. I'll take a look as well. And the extra safety you mention is already there, so that's a start.
Thank you for mentioning that the "rate this game" being broken. Looks like a big missed opportunity for me then... I'll take a look as well. (But I definitely don't plan to nag a player with "rate me" pop up, that will only show up if you click on the menu entry in the settings.) But hopefully that did not prevent you from rating from the store page!
